1. Introduction

Welcome to PolyShare ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users, especially students. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform. This policy is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other relevant privacy laws.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information primarily to provide a safe and effective educational experience.

Information Provided by Schools/Teachers:

  • Student Information: To create student accounts, we collect a student's first name, last name, and a "picture password" image URL. This information is used solely for account identification and login within their specific class. We do not require or collect student email addresses, home addresses, or phone numbers.
  • Instructor Information: We collect the name and email address (via Google Authentication) of teachers to create and manage their accounts.

Information Generated Through Use of the Service:

  • User-Generated Content: We collect the digital creations students upload, including 3D models and 2D images, along with the titles and descriptions they provide. This includes AI-generated images created within the platform.
  • Usage and Interaction Data: We collect data on how users interact with the platform, such as reactions given to designs and achievements unlocked. This data is used to power the platform's features and for educational assessment purposes by teachers.
  • Technical Data: Like most websites, we automatically collect technical information such as IP address, browser type, and device information to ensure the proper functioning and security of our service.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide, operate, and maintain our platform.
  • To facilitate student login and access to their class environment.
  • To allow teachers to monitor student work and provide feedback.
  • To enable platform features like the public gallery, achievements, and reactions.
  • To ensure the safety and security of our platform by moderating content and analyzing for potential threats.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade student personal information. Information is shared only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Within the Classroom: Student information and designs are visible to their teacher and potentially other students within the same class context, as determined by the teacher.
  • Public Gallery: If a student chooses to share a design publicly, the design (but not the student's full name) will be visible to other users of the platform.
  • Service Providers: We use third-party service providers like Google Cloud and Firebase to host our application and store data. These providers are contractually obligated to protect the data and are prohibited from using it for any other purpose.
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid request from a law enforcement or government agency.

5. Data Security

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information. Our platform is built on Google's secure Firebase infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. We utilize Firebase Security Rules to enforce strict access controls, ensuring that users can only access data they are authorized to see.

6. Data Retention

We retain student data for as long as is necessary to provide the educational service or as instructed by the school/teacher. When a course is archived or a teacher requests data deletion, we will take steps to securely delete the associated student content and information in accordance with our data retention schedule.

7. Parental and School Rights (COPPA)

We operate as a service provider to educational institutions. The school, acting as the parent's agent, provides consent for us to collect information from students for educational purposes.

Parents have the right to review the information we have collected about their child, request its deletion, and refuse to permit further collection or use. To exercise these rights, parents should contact their child's school or teacher, who can then manage the data through their teacher dashboard or by contacting us directly.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
